21st Century Fund for Innovation

Cazenovia College established the 21st Century Fund for Innovation in 1989 to stimulate professional initiative, creativity and innovation among and for all members of the college staff, faculty and administration.

This fund provides financial support for the exploration and implementation of new ideas and projects which will affect the teaching, learning or operational environment within the college in the 21st century.

Proposal Submission Guidelines

The following material describes the proposal submission procedure.

Proposals will be accepted until 5 p.m. on the first Friday in May. The 21st Century Fund Committee has determined that the number of proposals to be funded will depend on the quality of the proposals and the amount of funding requested.  The 21st Century Fund annually awards a total of up to $4,000 a year, which may be divided among all accepted proposals. 

A Successful Proposal MUST Include:

   1. Proposal Cover Sheet: See Attachment I. 
   2. Proposal Narrative: Applicants must use the question and answer format. Applications must be 
   double-spaced, not to exceed 4 (four) pages.
   3. Budget Statement:  one page, separate from the narrative. 
   4. Statement of Approval: See Attachment II. 

SUBMIT BY E-MAIL: the Cover Sheet, Proposal Narrative, and Budget Statement to chair of 21st Century Fund. (currently: kcresswell@cazenovia.edu )

SUBMIT TWO (2) COMPLETE PAPER COPIES OF YOUR PROPOSAL to Sarah Diederich in the Office of Academic Affairs. Note: Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.


The 21st Century Fund Committee, upon request, will provide technical assistance (for proposal development) to individuals or departments interested in completing this application. Requests for assistance should be directed to the Fund Chair.

Please note that failure to follow the requested format will result in automatic disqualification of the proposal.


All recipients of 21st Century Fund Awards will be required to include the following statement on all printed and promotional materials:  “This project was funded by a grant from the Cazenovia College 21st Century Fund for Innovation.”

The individual or individuals submitting the proposal will be responsible for the overall implementation and completion of the project should it receive funding. Upon completion of the project, the implementing person will be required to complete a final report detailing the outcomes achieved, barriers encountered, and general successes. If appropriate, the final report should also include information that details the project’s inability to meet stated expectations. In the final report, include copies of any printed materials developed with a 21st Century Fund grant.

The final report must be submitted to the 21st Century Fund’s Board of Directors within three months of the project’s completion.

Note: The 21st Century Fund awards up to a total of $4,000 per year. Requests for funding should be one-time requests.  Although projects may be multi-year, individuals seeking additional funding for their projects are expected to pursue such funding elsewhere.
