Roberta Lee August '58,
of Torrington, Conn., joined the board in 2008.
August was a paralegal for E. Seward Stevens, Esq., of Guion and Stevens, in Litchfield., and began her banking career with the trust department of Hartford National Bank and Trust Company, staying through various name changes, retiring from Fleet Bank’s Simsbury office after having worked in the Torrington and Winsted areas. Since her retirement she has worked with several law firms administering financial services and asset protection, maintaining nursing/companion services, and maintaining property under conservatorships through the local probate court system.
She is active with a number of community organizations, including the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut; Trinity Episcopal Church in Torrington; the Torrington Historical Society; the Northwest Area YMCA; the Rotary Club of Torrington; and the United Way of Connecticut; and with Litchfield Performing Arts, Inc., where she was a member and president of the board or directors, and now serves as a volunteer for the Jazz Festival. She was formerly involved with the Heritage Land Preservation Trust, Inc., the Nutmeg Conservatory for the arts, Inc.; Prime Time House, Inc.; Literacy Volunteers of Northwest Connecticut; and the Northwestern Girl Scout Council.
She received an associate’s degree, cum laude, from Cazenovia College in 1958. She studied at the University of Connecticut in Torrington and graduated from the Williams School of Banking in Williamstown, Mass. At Cazenovia College's 186th Commencement, held on May 14, 2011, August was presented with an honorary doctorate, Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
